When should we forgive ?

Muhammad (PBUH) did not want to leave Mecca. He had given his best to stick with his people, bear the losses, convince foes. But it lead him to leaving his community. Exhausted, he had no option but to move. It was a sad life there on — he spent the next 10 years away from his tribe. Among his colleagues, many spent time in exile away from their brothers, uncles and at times, spouses.

Yousaf (as) spent over a decade away from his tribe, in exile. He found no one he could trust. His childhood suffered. It was distress and pain. His character, kept him intact and made him a winner. Slowly, Allah (swt) brought him closer to his brothers. Either take revenge or forgive.

Like, Muhammad (PBUH), was given victory after a decade of turmoils — Yousaf (as) was given the authority to revenge the injustice. And both Prophets, decided to let go their enmities. Held on to mercy for unity of their kinship. And both left an everlasting impact. Their tribe grew, nation got stronger, community flourished and today, we find our role models in them.

Surah Yousaf, Verse 92

Forgiveness raises our status, builds our bond, creates harmony and makes living easy. Let go of your animosity, to be among the winners.
