Sitting here in Hospital - Hameed Latif

Pakistan, its people, the treasures underneath us, our history, the principles imparted upon us — are a victory; a guarenteed success. Yet what is the reason, we have been losing for so long?

I grew up struggling to find a settlement for myself. Thinking working hard - getting educated is what everyone does. Yet what is the reason my mother / sister / brother are struggling to find a settlement abroad. Who might be the reason for plundering my rights from me? Who is it I can put a blame to?

Out the window, broken roads, dirty canals, crowded lanes, and misery is all I see. You might argue it is fixing itself. You might say our cars are improving. Health sector is getting better. Education is going up. But where is it — when I look at this guy cleaning the floor next to me. What is his pay? 10k or 15k. And does he afford the Hameed Latif I am sitting in right now.

The broken elevator, dirty stairs, broken roof and switched off ACs in number 1 hospital of my Country. Depression in the air. Some the few are looting things right in front. Bigger cars and richer guys won’t be making these poor’s life any easier.

We talk Muhammad, say Kalma, hold Quran — yet we abuse the messages of them Supreme. Inside a broken hypocritical person — willing to prey on the weaker. Willing to shout on the next conflict. Convinced to abuse resources. Justified and happy — smoking non stop — thinking a valuable asset.

I know amongst us are great people. Some want to change it all in a beat. Make our home feel like a home. Some do want to help and win. Feel weak, yet big inside, with a conscious still intact, can’t hurt a fly — some do want to unite, clean our places of corruption, injustices, mafia-ism, trash. Some do want, but like me, do not know where or when or how to start..

Fellow brothers, sisters, I truly want we, the people of Pakistan, unite. Fix our airplanes, sewerage, transport, military, courts, schools, libraries, markets, supply, businesses, industry, trains to what not needs a fix. We stand taller than what we can, reach higher, grab that impossible, and make it possible.

Let us make a promise — we can’t stand to corruption for another moment no more. We can’t lower ourselves. We can’t be humble to a guy - hurting our fellow brother. We just can’t stop until we make our country, our home, our lovely land — a peaceful home. After which, no one feels a need to run to UK, Norway or Canada — to find the dear Freedom.
